Scripture 5 Song Demo

I had created some songs for the band Scripture for which I would play lead guitar for. Scripture was kind – of my creation in that I wanted a band to go play some shows. I needed some means to show the bandmates what I wanted to play, so I used the skills from the last production to produce this. The difference would be the songs and the device I recorded on.

Sometime in the spring of 1996 I recorded some songs on a Teac reel to reel machine. It would also be the first album where I had tunned the guitars to C standard. I would tune C standard from then on. I wrote an interesting song on this album called “Escape”.

What was interesting was how I was able to “flip & stretch” the bar chord. This was key to my method for understanding and playing the guitar from that moment on. The flip and stretch gave me the opportunity to increase the tension and dimensional sound at the guitar riff level.

Also to be noted was the lead/melody for the song. Writing “Escape” taught me some things in which I would use in the Renaissance material.

I also teamed up with Jason Tampanello for the lead vocals. It was a pleasure to work with him for this project.

The guitars sounded interesting because of the Teac 4-track machine as it would speed up and slow down at a rapid pace adding some strange dimension to the tone.
